- A Resource About Choking Prevention

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Maybe you have had some "basic training" in first aid, and are
- knowledgeable about the correct procedure to use in case you see some one
- choking in a restaurant or even at home. It is a common enough situation,
- with 3000 cases of death by choking occurring each year in the United States.
- But what if the victim is an infant or child? Are you still sure you would
- know what to do in that emergency? Children under the age of five comprise
- ten percent of the cases of deaths by choking, and those numbers might well be
- reduced if only you knew what to do. That makes the booklet offered by the
- American Academy of Pediatrics, in conjunction with the American Trauma
- Society such an important one for you to get your hands on. It is called
- "Choking Prevention and First Aid for Infants and Children" and it contains
- information and instructions that make it a vital brochure for you to read and
- study. There are specific instructions about the measures to be taken for
- both infants under one year old as well as older children, instructions that
- can save a life. The brochure opens into a chart that can be posted,
- immediately available when the need arises. Send your request, including the
- name of the booklet and a stamped self addressed envelope to the American
- Academy of Pediatrics, Dept. C, 141 Northwest Point Blvd., P.O. Box 927, Elk
- Grove Village, IL 60009-0927.
